The Dodge brand made its mark on American auto history with durable trucks and muscle cars known for their performance. While their lineup has shrunk over the years, they’ve maintained better-than-average reliability rating with the Charger, Challenger and Durango SUV.

Whether you’re looking for components for a new or used Dodge truck parts to fix up your old pickup, you’ve come to the right place.

Are Dodge parts expensive?

When it comes to parts, Dodge tends to be one of the more expensive American car brands along with its parent company, Chrysler. Both Dodge and Chrysler use Mopar parts, and the average repair costs are $10,600 in the first ten years of ownership.

So why is Dodge’s average annual maintenance cost expensive? The most likely answer is the scale of production. Compared to Ford and GM, Mopar makes fewer parts, and some of this cost is passed onto the consumer.

Dodge Engines

Over the years, Dodge made some great engines. Highlights include the 426 Hemi and 340 Small Block, synonymous with American muscle.

However, some models had severe engine issues. In the early 2000s, the Intrepid and Stratus had serious problems with oil sludge buildup in their 2.7L V6 engines. As a result, many owners turn to replacement engines when their extended warranty runs out.

Is it worth it to buy a rebuilt Dodge engine?

Rebuilt engines are essentially engines that were broken and have been fixed with new parts. Sometimes you can find a great deal, but be aware that all “rebuilds” are a mix of old and new parts. The older components that were not replaced could fail at some point, which means you are out of luck.

Whether or not a rebuilt engine is worth it depends on a number of factors, including:

  • Mileage
  • Age of the engine
  • The quality of the parts used in the rebuild
  • The mechanic who was rebuilding it

If the engine is old or broken beyond repair, it may be easier and more cost-effective to completely replace the engine. Used engines can help you get back on the road without having to spend big money on a new or remanufactured engine.

Dodge Transmissions

Overall, their transmissions are safe and reliable. However, there are exceptions. Tons of people had trouble with Dodge’s A604 transmission which was in use from the early nineties to the late 2000s. Models like Caravan, Neon and Stratus featured this type of transmission and are notorious for burning out before 100,000 miles.

Trucks from 1999 to 2003 are also known to have transmission issues, particularly the Durango and Ram.

These days, the company uses a much more reliable transmission made by the German manufacturer ZF. While they aren’t perfect, most experts praise Dodge’s return to a reliable, well-built transmission.
