Winter Driving Tips & Preparation for Traveling!

We know the winters can be difficult when it comes to vehicles. We want to help you as much as we can so here are a few helpful hacks to make your winter ride as smooth as possible during the cold season:

  • Always keep a winter emergency kit in your car! You never know what the elements will throw at you, so it is best to be prepared! This kit could include a blanket, flashlight, water, non-electric heating devices, a portable phone charger, etc
  • You might be surprised, but keeping kitty litter in your car could be a lifesaver. Putting kitty litter in the back of your car not only adds weight to your back tires to add traction, but if you ever get stuck in the snow putting litter around your tires will increase ration and reduce slipping so you drive off quickly. If you don’t have litter, insert cardboard in front of your tires. This works just as well as litter
  • Invest in a snow roof rake. It’s one of the best vehicle snow removal products to invest in. Snow will be much easier, faster, and safer to remove from your vehicle’s roof, hood, trunk, and doors without worrying about scratches
  • If your car requires a key lock in the door, you can use a straw to blow into the small area to thaw it out in a pinch
  • Keep a shovel and ice scraper in the trunk or bed. You’ll need the shovel if the snow is too high to drive through. The ice scraper helps remove ice the snow roof rake can’t remove
  • Our last and most important tip is to NEVER use hot water when trying to melt the ice on your car! When you put hot water on glass it will crack leaving you with a bigger problem than what you started with.

Preparing for the cold weather approaching is a task in itself. If you need replacement car parts to ensure your vehicle is in tip-top shape is something, we would love to help you. • Make sure your car is filled with high-quality windshield washer fluid with de-icer
  • Test your vehicle’s heating, seat warmer, and defog/defrost button
  • Make sure your battery is in good condition
  • Check your tire treads, bald tires can make driving in the snow very dangerous. Place a penny with Abraham Lincoln’s head facing down between the treads. The top of Lincoln’s head should be approximately 2/32 of an inch from the coin’s edge. You’ll need new tires when Lincoln’s entire head is visible
